Goldwind will supply 2.5MW turbines for the first 25% of the 220MW Penonome wind project in Panama.
Equity capital for the first phase will come from Goldwind’s investment arm, Goldwind Capital.
The several-phase project, in Cocle province, will be Central America’s largest, said the Chinese manufacturer, which did not specify the project size.
"The Penonome project serves as an important milestone for Goldwind’s international growth," said Goldwind chairman and CEO Wu Gang.
The full $440-million project, already under construction and to be completed in 2013, will supply some 7% of Panama’s electricity needs, UEP has previously told media.
Goldwind is already supplying turbines for projects in Chile and Ecuador.
UEP is the Panamanian subsidiary of Unión Eólica Espanola.
When UEP applied for UN certified emission reduction (CER) credits, it stated that the project was to use Vestas V100-1.8 MW turbines.
