Acciona wins 30MW Canadian deal

CANADA: Acciona “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç has won a turbine supply and maintenance contract with the Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation for the government-owned agency's planned 30MW wind farm.

The turbine manufacturer will deliver ten of its AW3000 3MW units, marking the first Canadian installation of the turbine model.

"After a competitive request for proposals process, we are satisfied that Acciona is the right choice, not only to provide the wind turbines, but to operate and maintain them for the next 15 years," said the province’s Energy Minister Wes Sheridan.

"This is a real milestone for this wind development project, which, when completed, will provide a measure of relief to Island ratepayers, who will benefit from some added stability in their future energy costs."

The project, located near Hermanville on the north-eastern shore of the Atlantic province, is expected to be operational by the end of 2013.
