The company’s total workforce will be reduced from 550 to 376.
In a statement, Clipper’s human resources manager Christine Stowell said: "In response to continued challenges facing our industry and our company, Clipper management has been working on developing a sustainable business model with an emphasis on its service business.
"This effort requires a downsizing and refocusing of our operations, reducing the company’s total workforce from 550 employees to 376. We are not closing any physical locations and are continuing to operate our production and assembly facilities in Cedar Rapids."
Clipper, which has its headquarters in California, has not yet disclosed where the layoffs will be made.
Last month, manufacturer Gamesa had to make 165 redundancies from its two factories in Pennsylvania. Further job losses are feared in the US unless there is an extension of the production tax credit.
