Obama, still campaigning in the swing state of Iowa, ridiculed his election opponent by recalling an anti-wind power comment made by Romney in May. Iowa is second only to Texas in terms of wind energy capacity.
Obama said: "During a speech a few months ago, Governor Romney even explained his energy policy this way: ‘You can't drive a car with a windmill on it.' That's what he said about wind power. I wonder if he actually tried that."
It is believed the President was alluding to an in which Romney drove from Massachusetts to Ontario with his pet Irish Setter Seamus in a crate that was strapped to the top of the car.
Romney, campaigning in the heart of coal country in Ohio, told a crowd yesterday that Obama has "declared war on coal".
Obama focuses on wind energy
Attacking Romney on wind power is becoming a regular strategy for Obama. Last week he told potential voters Romney's anti-production tax tariff stance could cost jobs.
"Right now home-grown energy, things like wind energy, are creating new jobs all across states like Iowa. Governor Romney wants to end tax breaks for wind energy producers."
