Walmart said the turbine will provide the equivalent to 15-20% of the centre's energy needs. The turbine, owned and operated by Foundation “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, is expected to be operational by the end of the year. It is based at Walmart's distribution centre in Red Bluff, California.
Walmart has a number of renewable energy projects in place. These include a 90MW wind farm in Texas and 14 stores in Northern Ireland that receive 100% of their energy needs from wind.

In 2010, EDF Energies Nouvelles signed a power purchase agreement with Walmart for a wind farm in Oaxaca, in southern Mexico.
The La Mata Ventosa wind farm has a capacity of 67.5MW and is EDF's first wind project in Mexico. It is located in the Tehuantepec isthmus, where all four of the country's 2009 wind farms were based.
Other retailers to build wind projects to supply their stores include Ikea and FujiFilm.
