Wind output reached 26.9/TWh in the January-to-June 2012, or 9.2% of Germany's electricity consumption of 261.5/TWh over the six-month period. The bulk of this came from onshore wind.
Overall renewables generation amounted to a record 67.9TWh or 25.1% of electricity consumption indicating that Germany's target of a 35% share of renewables in electricity consumption by 2020 looks likely to be met much earlier.
The next largest renewables contribution was biomass with 5.7% or 15.3/TWh. But of all the renewables, photovoltaic is expanding the fastest and is even beating the growth of wind.
Photovoltaic output increased by 4.6/TWh to 14.4/TWh in the first half of 2012 compared with the 9.8TWh achieved in same period of 2011.
Wind energy increased only 3.9TWh in the first half of 2012, compared with its output of 21/TWh in the equivalent period of 2011.
