In May last year, Sinovel produced a 6MW prototype in its production base in Yancheng, east China’s Jiangsu Province.
The turbine, which has a rotor diameter of 128 metres, may be applied in onshore, offshore and inter-tidal wind farms.
It has been tested at -45 degrees Celsius, and a wind speed of 62.5 metres per second.
Tao said the turbine adopts parallel axes gear drive and mouse cage asynchronous motor technology. It also has the low-voltage ride-through capacity, a necessity for installation in Chinese wind farms.
The SL6000 has a self-maintenance system, allowing the replacement of the gearbox, generator, and blades without external hoists.
Speaking about the deal, Lars Sitzki, who heads wind power services at TUV NORD in Hamburg, Germany said: "With the support of our colleagues at TÜV NORD China, we have identified considerable demand for internationally-recognised certification in China.
"Such certification enables manufacturers like Sinovel to demonstrate compliance with international standards. This is essential in order to play a part in global wind farm projects."
Sinovel is also in the latter stages of developing a 5MW turbine.
