According to local press reports, state-owned Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) says construction of the 430km-long transmission line will start in August.
The contract went to Kenyan civil and mechanical engineering company Civicon.
The work, which will be carried out by Spain's Isolux Corsan and is backed by a EUR100 million loan from the Spanish government, could take anything between 18 and 23 months.
In the meantime, Lake Turkana Wind Power Ltd is waiting for the World Bank to approve risk guarantees before it can achieve its long-delayed financial close.
