UE made the announcement as part of an update into its operations in Pakistan where it has substantial oil and gas commitments.
Speaking about the wind project, UE chairman Zhang Wei said the deal to develop the project was made at this month's China-Pakistan 'Joint Energy Working Group'.
Zhang said UE had won the 500MW project from the Chinese government. He added: "We have secured the land for the first phase and our team is doing research to decide the investment cost and project structure.
"We are also in talks with several Chinese renewable energy companies to mull the possibility for bringing in the advanced technology and equipments for our Pakistan wind project."
Zhang did not reveal a timeframe for the project, which would be Pakistan's largest within its current pipeline
There has been speculation in the press that Sinovel is set to supply turbines for the project.
Sinovel vice-chairman Tao Gang recently said the company, which won a strategic framework agreement with Turkish company Agaoglu to develop 600MW wind-power project.
According to Sinovel vice president Tao Gang, the deal will allow the company to increase its presence in the Middle East.
