ABB set to provide electrical works for Dudgeon offshore project

UK: The developer behind the planned Dudgeon offshore wind farm, Warwick Energy, has chosen ABB as its preferred supplier of electrical works.

The decision allows Warwick and ABB to work together on detailed designs, prior to a final contract likely to be signed in 2013, once project consenting and financing are in place.

Initial priority will be given to "further definition" of the onshore substation and onshore cable route as well as a review of options and scheduling of the marine export cable.

In early April, the UK High Court ruled in Warwick Energy's favour, requiring that UK central government authorities revisit their earlier decision to bar the company from proceeding with the construction of an onshore substation.

Dudgeon offshore wind farm is a Round 2 UK offshore wind farm, planned for an area off the Norfolk coast, some 32km from the town of Cromer.

Regulatory consent for the offshore elements of the project is expected shortly. The wind farm is currently scheduled to begin power generation by late 2015, according to ABB.
