According to Sinovel vice president Tao Gang, the move will increase its presence in Europe and countries neighbouring Turkey. It will be Sinovel's only overseas institution in the Middle East area, said Tao.
Sinovel entered the Turkish market in May 2011 when it signed a contract with Bereket, a renewable-energy power-generation company, in November and December respectively for the Yallova 54MW and Usak 54MW wind projects.
The turbines are expected to arrive in Turkey in late May. They will be installed and connected to the grid at the end of this year.
In April, Sinovel signed a strategic framework agreement with Turkish company Agaoglu to develop 600MW wind-power project. Under the agreement, Sinovel will supply Agaoglu with 1.5MW and 3.6MW onshore wind turbines, and maintenance and other after-sale services.
According to BTM research report, at the end of 2011 Turkey had 470MW wind turbines installed in 2011, a total of 1.982GW. Turkey expects to have 6.082GW wind installed capacity by 2016.
Tao said: "As a result of intensified competition in the Chinese wind-power market, Sinovel will exert greater efforts to develop offshore wind and overseas wind markets."
