The V100 2MW VCSS (Vestas Converter Scaler System) is designed for Class IIb wind speeds and uses a partial-scale power converter. It will be available in North America and Latin America in 2013.
Vestas said other improvements on the previous V100 models included doubling the access space from the tower to the nacelle, an integrated lubrication unit, and an ability to make more repairs in the turbine.
The new V100 marks Vestas' first new product of 2012. Last year, Vestas introduced two new versions of the V80/V90/V100 1.8MW series, three 2MW Gridstreamer turbines and the V100-2.6MW.
However, it has hit big problems introducing the Gridstreamer products to market following manufacturing problems in its Travemunde factory in Germany.
Speaking about the new V100, Ken Polnicky, Director of Product Marketing for Vestas in North America said: "The 2-MW platform has been around since 1995 — the early days of wind — and the longevity we’ve achieved with the platform is remarkable.
"This latest variant is another example of how a tried and proven product can be advanced to reach new market potential."
