TenneT hands ABB transmission deal

GERMANY: Dutch transmission operator TenneT has handed the connection contract for the 111MW Nordergrunde offshore wind farm to ABB.

Energiekontor's Nordergrunde wind farm consists of 18 Repower 6M 6.15MW machines. As the project is near-shore, the cable will only run 32km to the transformer station.

The wind farm, which is project financed, will be located on a site 15 kilometres north-east of the island of Wangerooge, in the German North Sea.

As revealed in “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç earlier this month, Energiekontor received a commitment from TenneT to connect the project by July 2014.

The project was due to be built last year but was held up by appeals from environmental organisation BUND and others against the construction permit.

Last year, TenneT handed ABB the biggest power transmission order in its history. The deal was to connect a number of German offshore wind farms to the country's national grid.

The deal with grid operator TenneT, worth $1 billion, was to deploy an HVDC system with a rating of more than 900MW.

Installation of the eighteen turbines will begin  "from 2014". Tennet said the cable connection to the onshore grid ready by July 2014.
