GL Garrad Hassan to make US offshore study

UNITED STATES: The Department of Energy has asked GL Garrad Hassan to undertake an analysis of the US's ability to build its offshore capacity.

The work will take the form of two projects. The first will look at the existing port facilities and what needs to be done to ensure they cater for any future offshore needs.

This will include technical requirements for assembly and construction of offshore projects. It will also look at whether the ports can handle servicing.

The second study will look at the costs installation and maintenance in US conditions.

GL has been handed grants of $500,000 and $200,000 for the studies. The money is part of a $43 million DoE offshore wind initiative to lower the cost of energy for offshore projects.
