French offshore second round to be postponed

FRANCE: The French government has said it will launch the second round of its offshore tender in the latter half of 2012, not in April as originally planned.

Although the first round only yielded 1,928MW, Besson says the target of 6GW will be achieved. It is not clear if the second round will be increased to 4GW or if there will be an additional call for tenders.

The zones to be tendered are still being decided.

It is likely it will include Noirmoutier and Le Tréport, giving GDF Suez another bite at the cherry.

In the first tender the government followed CRE's advice to abandon a fifth project at Le Tréport, where GDF Suez was the only bidder. The purchase price was the highest among all the projects, the energy ministry said.
