Enviroserve orders French support vessels

FRANCE: The first offshore wind-farm support vessels to be built in France have been ordered by UK wind-farm service provider Enviroserve.

The first of the two 24-metre catamarans, to be built by shipbuilder Navalu, based at Port du Bec, near St Nazaire, will be named Sea Fox. It is to be launched in January 2013.

The vessel will be powered in a similar way to a four-wheel drive vehicle, with four separate engines driving four separate propulsion units. This gives greater manoeuverability around wind turbines in heavy seas.

It has accommodation to sleep 12 technicians in four cabins, a galley and shower facilities and generous stowage with capacity for 12 tonnes of cargo. Deck equipment includes a hydraulic crane and an ‘A’ frame with a two-tonne lift capacity.
