The 2.3MW turbines are destined for the 62MW Teeside offshore project. Over the next seven months Hartlepool will be the focal point for all materials and components to be installed at the new wind farm, which is being developed by EDF Energy Renewables.
More than 100 people are involved in the offshore construction programme and will be operating out of the Hartlepool project supply base.
The extensive land available and deep water at the port were decisive in the choice. Contractors Van Oord UK will supply and install the turbine foundations and subsea cables and manage the installation operations for the 27 turbines.
The first turbines at the site 1.5 km off the shore of Redcar will be installed by late summer of this year.
