The contract is for 41 GE 2.75-103 low wind speed turbines, which will feature a 98.3-metre tower. The turbines will go to projects in the North-Rhine-Westphalia and Cuxhaven areas and are expected to be commissioned in 2013.
Speaking about the deal, Peter Szabo, Energiekontor’s managing director said: "The technical design of these high-performance wind generators with their low noise emission levels is one of the main reasons we have chosen GE as our project partner."
The deal comes after a difficult 2011 in Germany for GE. According to German wind energy institute DEWI, 2,007MW of wind capacity installed in Germany last year with Enercon and Vestas accounting for lion share with 59.5% and 21% respectively.
GE was, along with Siemens, relegated to the 'Other' group, which had only 3.5%. In Septemeber, the company launched a new advertising camapign "We are the GE in German campaign" („Wir sind das GE in Germany").
