Vattenfall completes Ormonde offshore project

UK: Vattenfall has installed the final turbine the 150MW Ormonde offshore wind farm, located off Barrow in Furness in north-west England.

The project uses 30 Repower 5MW turbines and follows the UK's Walney offshore wind farm, which was completed earlier this month. It first started producing power in August last year.

Work on the wind farm started in May 2010 and has involved local firm Burntisland Fabrications and the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.

Speaking about the project, Vattenfall head of offshore projects Georg Friedrichs said: "Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm has been two-years in the making and we are pleased to have recently completed commissioning of the 30th and final wind turbine at the scheme.

"Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm gives a glimpse into the technological future of offshore wind development as it uses, at this large scale, the most powerful commercially available wind turbine in the world with foundations specially designed for deep water and heavier machines."
