Under the deal, Gamesa will supply 5 G97 2MW turbines to the Gesner wind farm located on the Lake Erie shore between Chatham-Kent and London. The turbines will feature a 90-metre tower.
Gesner will be installed by mid-2012. It is the company's only wind project, which has been more active in the development of solar within Ontario.
Speaking about the deal, vice president of sales for Gamesa North America, David Takash said: "This is a new milestone for Gamesa. The Canadian wind market offers abundant opportunities, and Gamesa has the advanced technology products to bring this clean energy to market in a cost-effective way to benefit local consumers."
Gamesa launched the G97 2MW turbine for the North American market in 2010, as part of its aim to cater for the low-wind market. It said the 97-metre long G97-2.0 has a 16% bigger swept area and 14% more energy output than Gamesa’s G90.
