Masdar set to launch in Scotland

UK: The Scottish Government today announced that it is set to partner Abu Dhabi’s clean tech investor Masdar in renewables research and development.

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond will visit the Emirate next week for its World Future Energy Summit and sign with Masdar what the Scottish government calls a "landmark agreement to develop tangible green energy products".

While exact details of the schemes and technologies to benefit from the partnership have yet to be revealed, it was confirmed that the Energy Technology Partnership, an alliance of 12 Scottish universities already engaged in energy research, will lead the partnership for Scotland.

"It is clear that the work Masdar is taking forward on leading us to a low carbon society is in perfect synchronisation with the work we are doing here in Scotland," said Salmond.

"This is the first agreement of its kind between Masdar and an individual nation and will work towards developing further university research into renewable energy."
