Offshore vessel efficiency survey launched

NORWAY: A project to identify opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of ships serving the offshore wind, oil and gas industries has been announced.

Involving a partnership of seven Norwegian firms involved in offshore shipping, the project is being managed by certification and classification giant, Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

Called Energy Efficient Offshore Partners, the companies participating in the initiative are: BPOA Offshore, Eidesvik Offshore, Farstad Shipping, Gulf Offshore Norge, Havila Shipping, Siem Offshore and Solstad Offshore.

The project aims to identify and implement best practice energy efficiency options, including improvements to industry standards for fuel consumption and carbon emissions from offshore supply vessels. The initiative’s first phase is scheduled for completion in spring 2012.
