Vestas said it has been appointed the preferred supplier to two projects totalling 138MW. According to reports, Suzlon is in the same position for the 135MW Cookhouse wind farm in Eastern Cape, which is being developed by African Clean Energy Developments.
Another developer to be awarded preferred bidder status is Mainstream Renewable Power for the Jeffreys Bay 138MW wind farm located in the Eastern Cape.
Out of the bids, wind power accounts for just under 30% with eight of the projects selected. The wind-power projects total 633.99MW, around 45% of the total of 1415.52 MW.
The government has announced two more bidding rounds in 2012, closing on March 5 and August 20, with two more planned for 2013.
