CanWEA forecasts record growth in Canada for 2011

CANADA: The Canadian wind industry is on track to install a record 1.4GW of capacity in 2011, more than double the 690MW that came on line in 2010.

The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) released its year-end projections Monday, marking the occasion by opening trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

CanWEA president Robert Hornung said: "Canada, and in particular Ontario, is emerging as a very competitive destination for wind-energy investment globally.

"As demonstrated here today, this industry represents billions of dollars in new investments across the manufacturing and construction sectors."

Ontario will lead the way in 2011 with more than 500MW of new wind installed. Projects are also being built and commissioned in seven other provinces.
