Built by CTruk Boats of Brightlingsea, Essex, in eastern England, the vessel can carry 12 passengers and carries an amphibious rescue pod. This can be launched from the vessel to carry out rescues on dried-out sands, a feature of the wind-farm site in the Thames Estuary.
Chris Randle, Siemens’ project manager with London Array says the company first worked with CWind on the Gunfleet Sands wind farm. "It’s important for us to have total confidence in the skippers, their crew and the quality of the vessels," he said. "The team will go the extra mile to make sure the job offshore is completed safely."
The new vessel will operate out of the port of Ramsgate and will be followed by two further workboats in early 2012.
