They will establish two joint venture companies, owned 70% by Iberdrola and 30% by Eole-RES, to bid for up to 500MW at St-Brieuc, off the north coast of Brittany, and 750MW at St-Nazaire, on the Atlantic seaboard.
French turbine manufacturer Areva and the engineering and construction firm Technip are also part of the consortium.
"This consortium is undoubtedly one of the most solid and experienced, with a valuable technical, industrial and financial background that will allow the development of high-quality offshore projects," said Jean-Marc Armitano, CEO of Eole-RES.
The winners of the 3GW tender are set to be announced in the first quarter of 2012.
