GE considers Norwegian offshore withdrawal

NORWAY: GE is considering pulling out of an offshore wind project it has been working on in Norway.

The company bought Norwegian turbine developer ScanWind last year but is now considering moving away from hydroelectric-rich Norway to other markets.

Eystein Aspesletten, a spokesman for GE Energy's Nordic subsidiary, told Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv: "The offshore-wind market in Norway has not developed as we had expected."

A 4MW offshore turbine being developed by GE in Norway has been deemed suitable for shallow waters, but the company is believed to be moving towards a 10-15MW deep-water turbine design as a long-term project.
