A Bard 5.0 nacelle
Founded in 2003, BARD aimed to become a globally active fully integrated offshore wind-project developer and its development record can only be described as breathtaking.

A 5MW turbine — including rotor blades — was developed, a separate company was founded for manufacturing in-house developed tripile foundations and an installation vessel was ordered for installing the turbines.

Two BARD 5.0 onshore prototypes were installed in 2007, followed by a near-shore prototype in 2008.

In 2009, Nathalia Bekker, a BARD director and daughter of founder Arngolt Bekker (76) died at the age of 32. Until her death she was destined to take over the helm from her father.

The construction of the 400MW Bard Offshore I wind farm begun in 2010.

The company sale could be completed this year or in spring 2012 with buyer interest in the US, Europe and Asia, according to spokesperson Andreas Kölling.
