This is 23.1% less than last year, where prices were the lowest in the world — except in parts of northern China — from an auction system at BRL131/MWh ($75/MWh).
The bulk of the energy on offer was either wind or natural gas. A total of 1.5GW of energy was contracted, with an average price of BRL 102.07/MWh.
The majority of successful projects were wind and the 44 projects have committed to supply 1.07GW.
The reserve auction, which is for wind only, takes place today.
Mauricio Tolmasquim, president of the government’s energy-planning authority, Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE), said that the low prices were a result of arrival of wind-equipment manufacturers in the country.
Vestas is the latest manufacturer to announce plans for a factory in the country. Gamesa opened its first factory in the north-eastern state of Bahia in July.
