Ikea acquires 12.3MW Scottish project

UK: Home furnishings retailer Ikea has added to its wind farms with the acquisition of a 12.3MW project in Scotland.

The company has bought the project, which is located near Huntly in northern Scotland.

The deal takes Ikea’s wind-energy portfolio close the 100MW mark. It already owns projects in Germany and France and is building a 20MW development in Sweden.

Speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç earlier in the year, Ikea Goes Renewable project manager Arvid Grindheim said while the company was investing in solar in the US, it was concentrating on Europe for wind investment.

In September last year, Ikea purchased six wind farms with a combined capacity of 45.05MW from Gamesa.

The wind farms are the Oberende (Lower Saxony), Diemelsee I and II (Hesse), Winterspelt I and II and Zettingen (Rhineland-Palatinate). All of the projects are in north-west and south-west Germany.
