Dogger Bank, located at a depth of 18-63 metres in the central North Sea, comprises one third of the total Round 3 offshore-wind potential and will become the biggest wind-energy development in the world with an agreed target installed capacity of 9GW by 2020.
Forewind — a consortium of RWE, SSE, Statkraft and Statoil — says in its first annual review, published on 7 July that it has now received an early agreement from the UK National Grid for a 1GW connection at an existing substation in East Yorkshire, England.
It has also carried out geophysical surveys covering 7,000 kilometres of the full zone and 24,000 kilometres of the Tranche A areas. These include ornithological and geotechnical surveys and the deployment of two wave buoys. Onshore-consenting studies and liaison with fisheries associations have also taken place.
Goals for the rest of 2011 are completing arrangements for the ownership, construction and operation of Projects One to Three, keeping consenting activities for these three projects to schedule and securing timely grid connections.
