The Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Indices, shows China leading on 78 points, a lead of 12 points. E&Y partially attributed this to low turbine prices aiding growth.
Behind in joint second place is the Germany, US and UK. The US and Germany have risen from third and fourth places respectively, which is largely due to the UK losing two points.
Despite its strong emphasis on offshore, the UK’s lack of onshore commitment has meant a decrease in installations of 289MW between 2009 to 2010. In December, the UK overtook the US to take second position.
The US has fallen a point. E&Y blamed this on developer uncertainty over Federal policy.
E&Y highlighted the German government’s recommendation to increase the offshore FIT from €130/MWh to €150/MW/h.
Other country’s to take a hit included Canada, which was deducted a point for Ontario’s offshore moratorium. Australia was down four points as a result of a AUS$1.8 billion cut in renewables spending.
