Vestas wins second AWEC order from Terra-Gen

UNITED STATES: Terra-Gen Power has handed Vestas a 219MW order for the Alta Wind Energy Centre (AWEC) in California.

A V90 3MW under construction at the Alta Wind Energy Centre

Vestas will supply 73 V90 3MW turbines for the project, which is located in the Mojave Desert. It is set to be the largest wind project in the world.

Delivery and commissioning is set for the end of 2011. Vestas has already supplied 570MW to the project, its largest ever order.

The deal follows Google’s announcement that it will be investing $55 million in the expansion of the AWEC. The funds will go towards building the 102MW Alta IV part of the development.
