PGE to build 30MW project in Poland

POLAND: Local utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) has unveiled plans to set up a 30MW wind farm in Turow, in the country’s southwest.

The latest project is to be developed by the company’s clean energy subsidiary, PGE Energia Odnawialna.

Under the deal signed by the subsidiary and the Turow brown coal mine, the wind farm will be located on a site leased from the mine.

PGE Energia Odnawialna is also planning to construct a wind farm in Chelm, in Poland’s southeast.

The company aims to install seven  turbines with a total capacity of 17.5MW, but a further 12.5MW could be added. The facility is scheduled for completion by 2015.

Poland has set an installed wind power target for 2020 of 6.65GW, compared to just over 1.1GW at the end of 2010.
