Siemens to increase Serbian production capacity

SERBIA: Siemens is planning to increase the production capacity of its wind generator factory in the northern Serbian city of Subotica by the end of 2012, despite the country's lack of wind capacity.

According to the head of the energy department at Siemens Serbia, Dusan Muskatirovic, the company plans to boost its monthly production from 280 to over 400 by 2013, raising the number of employees, in the same period, from 500 to 750.

As a result, the Loher Elektro Subotica factory would turn into "one of its leading facilities in terms of output in the region".

Muskatirovic but did not want to disclose the value of the planned investments in Subotica nor details regarding the destination of the additional production capacity.

Currently, all the turbines produced locally are exported, as Serbia has yet to install its first wind energy plant. Siemens was unable to comment on where the additional comments would be delivered.

The Loher Elektro Subotica factory, a producer of large drives for wind power plants, was integrated into Siemens’s Serbian unit in January 2010.
