Seven bidders advance in 150MW Taza tender

MOROCCO: Seven companies and consortia have made it through the pre-qualification round of a tender process held by Moroccan state utility, Office National de l'Electricité, to develop, build and operate a 150MW wind power plant at Taza, to the east of Fez.

Out of 27 applicants, seven can now proceed to the second round, expected to take place this summer.

They are Mitsui of Japan, Italy's Enel Green Power, Germany’s Enercon and Siemens with WKN Windkraft, France's EDF Energies Nouvelles, AES of the US, and local conglomerate Nareva Holding in partnership with the UK's International Power.

This is the first tender to be launched under Morocco's Integrated Wind Energy Programme, announced last summer, which targets 1GW of installed capacity by 2020 to be developed as public-private partnerships.

The Taza plant is due online in 2014.
