Areva and GDF Suez in partnership pact

FRANCE: Energy giants Areva and GDF Suez are about to sign a partnership deal for the upcoming 3GW offshore tender in France, according to French financial daily Les Echos.

Areva will contribute its expertise in manufacturing offshore turbines and GDF Suez its experience as an energy producer, the paper reports. If successful, Areva could establish a factory in France.

The two groups are also said to be in "advanced negotiations" with Vinci, a major construction company, and to have approached Denmark's Dong Energy, already active in the offshore sector.

A spokesperson for Areva said the group was in talks with various potential partners but did not deny the information reported in Les Echos.

The possible alliance follows an earlier agreement between Alstom and EDF Energies Nouvelles in January.

France’s 3GW offshore tender is to be launched in May with bids submitted by November 30 and results announced in March 2012.
