At the beginning of 2010, Vestas installed 857MW wind turbines in China, about 12 percent of the company’s new capacity for the year. By the end of the year, this figure had risen to 2.9GW.
The China Wind Energy Association said that by the end of 2010, Vestas had 2.9GW wind turbines installed in China making up 6.5 percent of its market. Vestas is the fourth largest manuafacturer, after Sinovel, Goldwind and Dongfang Electric.
Vestas China president, Jens Tommerup said sustainable development is a priority of Vestas in China. As part of this, Vestas has set up a wind turbine monitoring center in Beijing, capable of monitoring the performances of all its Chinese turbines.
"The monitoring result shows Vestas wind turbines made in China are equally well performing as anywhere else in the world," said Tommerup.
Vestas entered China in 1986 when it had first group of wind turbines installed in south China’s Hainan and east China’s Shandong. Now, it has five wind power equipment manufacturing plants in the country.
