The report, which focuses on stalled energy projects and their effect their delay has on the economy, found renewables projects were more likely to be held up than those involving fossil fuels.
‘Project Denied: The Potential Economic Impact of Permitting Challenges Facing Proposed Energy Projects’ found a total of 351 energy projects awaiting regulatory clearance. 140 of these were renewables developments with 89 coming from wind.
US Chamber of Commerce vice president of environment, technology and regulatory affairs Bill Kovacs said: "One of the most surprising findings is that it is just as difficult to build a wind farm in the US as it is to build a coal-fired power plant. In fact, roughly 45 percent of the challenged projects that were identified are renewable energy projects."
The report also pointed out 21 transmission projects were awaiting approval and said these were vital to the success of the renewables developments.
