Under the agreement, State Grid will work closely with REE in developing grid-access technologies for renewable energies. This will include wind power and extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transmission.
Liu Zhenya, State Grid general manager, said over the next five years, State Grid will construct 23,000km EHV AC transmission lines and 20,000km EHV DC transmission lines.
So far, State Grid has received access to 31GW wind turbines. In 2010, these wind turbines generated 47.2 billion kWh electric power.
State Grid has completed studies for wind power transmissions for the country’s eight 10GW-level wind power bases.
Under its five-year plan, State Grid plans to improve its capacity to admit 50GW wind power in 2011 and 100GW wind power in 2015. A 100GW capacity was originally planned by State Grid for 2020.
By the end of 2010, China had cumulative wind installed capacity of 42GW, the largest in the world.
