The $108 million, 56MW wind farm, is set to begin construction in October and production in June next year, providing government approval is given. It would use 28 turbines of 2MW each.
Wind Service has already signed rental agreements with the owners of 152 hectares in Llay Llay, a village in northern region Valparaiso.
It is close to the capital, Santiago, and the cities of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, which means it is close to a 100KV connection and major highways for materials transport.
Chile has only 166MW of wind power installed according to government figures, although the government has published an ambitious target of 40GW by 2025.
However, the state is seeking to boost the industry in northern region Antofagasta via two bidding rounds that end in July.
Wind Service’s legal representative, Juan Walker, who has been closely involved with the construction of 66MW of the nation’s capacity, confirmed that the firm was researching a portfolio of projects with a total capacity of 500MW, but declined to give further details.
