Dakota Community Wind will be in the Gregory and Tripp County areas, which have some of the best wind resources in the state.
Aberdeen-based Dakota Plains Energy, the only South Dakota-based utility-scale wind developer, is working in conjunction with the South Central Wind Association.
Other community wind farms are also being developed in the state.
South Dakota Wind Partners, a group of community investors, is developing a 10.5MW project next to Basin Electric Power Cooperative's 151.5MW PrairieWinds wind farm in central South Dakota.
PrairieWinds has agreed to operate the wind farm and purchase the electricity it makes.
According to the latest “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Windicator, South Dakota has the 11th highest installed capacity in the United States, with 1222MW.
