This is the view of Energia Eolica de Honduras (EEH) director Evelyn Nunez. She was speaking as EEH, which belongs to larger Honduran energy group Mesoamerica, began the expansion of Cerro de Hula, billed "Central America's largest wind project".
Additionally, Nunez revealed three other firms including France's X Wind and local energy firms Grupo Terra and Vientos de la Pena are in the early stages of planning wind projects in the country.
However, observers said these were likely to be in the 20-30MW range. X Wind, Grupo Terra and Vientos de la Pena were unable to comment.
Nunez said Honduras is making strides toward developing a renewables programme but the government still lacks "a clear plan". Also, red tape and political volatility makes it difficult to secure authorisation for projects.
However, observers say Honduras has great potential for the development of wind, solar and other renewable technologies.
Speaking about the Cerro de Hula project, Nunez said: "The area's winds are very strong and the park is very close to the power grid and right next to the Panamericana highway [which crosses Central America]."
