The timing of the imports was specified by Goldwind USA vice president of engineering Scott Rowlands. Rowlands was speaking at last week’s US-China Wind 2010 conference in San Francisco.
In January, Goldwind, one of the ‘big three’ turbine manufacturers in China along with Sinovel and Dongfang, became the to install wind turbines on US soil.
The 4.5MW Uilk project in Minnesota consists of three 1.5MW direct drive turbines. It started operating commercially in January 2010.
Goldwind is still searching for a site to manufacture its turbines in the US, officials confirmed. The move is part of Goldwind’s plan to bring in a from overseas markets.
Speaking about the decision to import the turbines into the US, Goldwind USA CEO Tim Rosenzweig pointed out Goldwind still aimed to build a US manufacturing base for certain components.
He said: "We still expect to start building hubs and nacelles next year in the US." The company currently manufactures in China and in Germany, the latter under its 70% ownership of .
The company floated an IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange in the autumn of 2010. It was its second offering after it launched on the Shenzhen stock exchange in 2007.
