Belarus plans to build 300MW in wind farms by 2015, according to an energy strategy document approved in August by the country's Council of Ministers. More than half is expected to come from a 160MW wind farm planned for Dzerzhinsk district in the Minsk region. At end-2009, Belarus had just 1.2MW of installed wind capacity. Belarus, a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), plans to bolster other renewable energy sectors as part of its plans to increase energy independence.
