In a month, the prototype, which has 90-meter diameter blade will be shipped to Texas and installed at the 600MW Spinning Star Wind Energy Project, located in west Texas.
Jinxiang Lu, A-Power's Chairman and CEO said: "We are very excited at the much anticipated delivery of the prototype. We continue to believe the Spinning Star Project will evolve into a first-rate renewable energy project that will be the model for future large-scale wind projects throughout the US."
Mr. Lu said testing results from the prototype would be used in connection with the development of and further supply to the Spinning Star Project and other potential US customers.
Shenyang Lucky Wind Power Equipment Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned A-Power subsidiary established in 2007, is the exclusive supplier of wind turbines for the Spinning Star Project. It is able to produce 1.5MW, 2.05MW, 2.5MW and 2.7MW turbines, with technology licensed from German manufacturer Fuhrlander.
Spinning Star Energy LLC, established in 2009, is a joint-venture with Shenyang Power Group (SPG), a partly-owned Chinese subsidiary of A-Power, and U.S.-based developers of US-REG and Cielo Wind Power LP (Cielo Wind).
The Spinning Star Wind Energy project won the support of United Steelworkers union to enter the U.S. market, under an agreement signed on August 5. As a result, A-Power undertook to seek suppliers and build towers in the country.
