The first stage project, comprising 34 3MW Sinovel turbines, was constructed in September 2008 and completed and integrated to the local grid in July this year.
The second stage project will be located to the west of the East Sea Bridge (the first stage is to the east of the bridge). It will accommodate to 30 units of 3.6MW turbines, in a span of 1,000 meters in the north and south direction, and 800 meters in the east and west direction between two turbines.
The 3.6MW and 5MW turbines are extra ones to the second stage project. Thus, the total capacity of the second stage project will be 116.6MW. The project has received initial approval.
Shanghai is planning to construct another four offshore wind farms:
- 100MW offshore wind farm in Fengxian (early stage work underway)
- 400MW offshore wind farm in Pudong (first stage work underway)
- 300MW offshore wind farm in Fengxian (under medium and long-term programming)
- 200MW offshore wind farm in Hengsha of Chongming (under medium and long-term programming).
China is launching public tender for four offshore wind farm concession projects in east China’s Jiangsu Province, totaling 1GW. The result of public tender announced at the end of September.
