EDP reports 32% increase in renewable energy production

PORTUGAL: Portugal's EDP Group reported a 32% increase in wind energy production during the 1H 2010, supported by higher load factors (up one percentage point to 29%) and capacity expansion (over 22%).

Wind energy production in Europe grew 50%, driven by "higher load factors and the higher base of installed capacity (over 18%)".

In the U.S., production climbed 20% over the same period, supported by the addition of 18% in installed capacity. In June, EDP had 1.2GW under construction: 509MW in the United States, 328MW in Spain, 274 MW in the rest of Europe and 70MW in Brazil.

In the first six months of this year, the installed capacity of the EDP group grew 10%, while electricity generated from sources free of CO2 increased by 50%, representing 73% of the total production of the EDP Group.
