The applications comes in the wake of a new law passed b’s legislature earlier this year, designed to make it easier for private wind farm development.
State Sen. Chris Langemeier of Schuyler said: "It sends a message that Nebraska is officially open for the business of renewable energy development."
Nebraska is currently the only state where all electric customers are served by publicly owned utilities.
This has helped limit energy costs, but has limited wind power schemes because public utilities cannot benefit from federal tax incentives.
Invenergy’s proposal will be considered by the state power board over the next six months to a year.
The company said it will take around 10 months to build the facility once it is approved.
