CANADA: Sequoia Energy, a renewable energy developer based in the Canadian province of Manitoba, has acquired the assets of Calgary-based C-Free Power Corporation, adding 1.6GW of wind and water power projects to its development pipeline.

Sequoia is the original developer of what is so far Manitoba's only operating wind project and it recent years has expanded its reach with wind, solar and hydroelectric development projects in five Canadian provinces and 15 US states.

C-Free's projects are focused on the British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan markets. The companywon a power purchase contract from BC Hydro in the utility's recently completed clean power call for a 19 MW run-of-river hydro project.

The details of the transaction were not released, but Sequoia says it will open a Calgary office and C-Free employees will continue as part of the expanded company.

"The Calgary office complements our current staff, who are working on projects as far east as Ontario and as far south as Texas. Together we improve the role we all play in bringing better energy solutions to this part of the world," says Sequoia CEO Ron Diduch.
